Mr. Danny Doon JP
President

Chinese Restaurateurs Association of Victoria Inc.

Message

Melbourne, acclaimed as the food capital of Australia and why? Because here in Melbourne, we present a truly multicultural food affair, with cuisine from all over the world. Melbourne has one of the best restaurant communities in the world – diverse, exciting, adventurous, delicious and best of all – value for money! And I am proud to say that Members of the Chinese Restaurateurs Association of Victoria (CRAV) are a key contributor to this great creation!

To this end, the CRAV organizes the Asian Food Festival and engages local Traders to develop and
• celebrate the diversity of Asian cuisine in Melbourne;
• give Melburnians the opportunity to explore and enjoy the myriad of tastes and flavours of Asian Food, and
• recognise and promote excellence in the Asian restaurant industry.

The Festival program focuses on enhancing established areas of commercial, retail and consumer significance within the hospitality and catering industry. The Festival aims to:
• increase economic benefit through business links or targeted business and commercial networks;
• build relationships by providing the opportunity to meet key people and stakeholder groups;
• increase the capacity for visitation providing potential benefit to businesses by increasing the number of people who would dine out during the winter months, and,
• raise the profile and lift the status or awareness of the hospitality and catering industry and also other business through the media exposure it receives.

The Festival creates innovative ideas, events and built retail development opportunities and issues relating to the culinary industry.

And, the contribution continues with the special presentation of more new culinary events during the month-long celebration of the Asian Food Festival in September. As our slogan goes, “Spring Rolls” Into the Asian Food Festival. From Chinatown to our neighbouring cultural Precincts, the Greek and Italian Precincts, a part of our great Victorian Multicultural State, Melbourne has some of the finest eateries in the world.

Let’s enjoy and Yum Seng! to another awesome event! It is no secret that Melburnians love food and have that great “more-ish” feeling of wanting this Truly, Madly, Deeply Scrumptious dishes all the time - Fresh, Delicious and Gastronomic!

Hon. Gastronome Ambassador

Australian food, like British or American food, has developed through the influences that have over the years, played upon it. And the fact that modern Australian food is now clearly a cuisine far superior to either modern British or modern American food is entirely due to the power of the Asian influences that have shaped it. To the point, I believe, where Australian food has become the newest and possibly the most diverse Asian cuisine of them all.

One of the great joys of life in Melbourne is the wealth of exceptional food....and when it comes to Asian food, its even better to have a range of special events to tempt you and perhaps lead you to delicious dishes you’d never have found otherwise. Enjoy this wonderful Food Festival – a true celebration of the best in life!
